When I began to write 7 Arrows: Transformational Prayer for a Culture in Crisis, I knew that I wanted to write about praying for revival and awakening in our nation. Praying for America has been a life -long mission for me. As I began to write, 7 Arrows became so much more than a prayer manual. 7 Arrows is a call to prayer, but it is also a commentary on our culture and a call for believers to become agents of change to every aspect of culture.
In 7 Arrows, there are seven different thought-provoking essays about various aspects of culture. These include the individual; the family unit; churches, local and federal governments, media and awakening. I also covered some aspects of America’s public school system.
The Bible speaks a lot about ‘times and seasons.’ Jesus, Himself, exhorted us to discern correctly the times in which we live.
The time has past for Christians to dwell in enclaves, separated from the rest of culture, having little impact on culture at large, while secularists wage a militaristic campaign to take God out of every sphere of influence. There are many issues at the forefront of American culture, and Christians must step forward in faith and with the wisdom of God in order to solve problems. Our current medical crisis only highlights this truth.
Here is a small section from 7 Arrows to inspire faith in you- that you can be one who shifts culture and changes history.
From 7 Arrows: Transformational Prayer for a Culture in Crisis, pages 39-41
“We have been given patterns of success and His promises to stand on. We can look to the heroes of our faith as examples of those who, in times of crisis, took a stand and shifted the direction of history.
Below are some of the most powerful verses in all of scripture. These are the words of Daniel as he stood before the king.
Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to Him. It is He who changes the times and the (seasons) epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings; He gives wisdom to wise men and knowledge to men of understanding. It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, And the light dwells with Him. To You, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, For You have given me wisdom and power. Daniel 2: 19-23 (NASB)
These declarations of Daniel provide a foundation of faith for prayers that transform culture. Let’s unpack them:
“Wisdom belongs to the Lord.” The solutions to our problems are found in wisdom – in revealed truth. This wisdom belongs to the Lord.
“Power belongs to the Lord.” The ability to change circumstances, to alter the story, to bring a different outcome belongs to the Lord.
“He changes the times and seasons; He removes kings and establishes them.” The Lord, our God, is sovereign over the affairs of men. It is He who changes times, seasons and eras, who removes and establishes rulers and authorities.
“He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals the profound and hidden things.”
“You have given me wisdom and power.” Here is the kicker, for us: God gives wisdom and power to those who seek Him.
The Lord will give us the wisdom and the power that we need in order to change our families and our communities if we seek Him, discern correctly, pray with His power and take action in accordance with His instructions.
You and I can be those who change history. The requirements are willingness, availability, humility, great courage, integrity and faith. All of these attributes are given to men in their relationships with the Lord. All of these attributes, in growing measure, are available to you and me.
Stop and meditate on these powerful words from Daniel 2. Let faith – that your life can make a difference – rise in your heart.”
Begin to ask God how and where you can make a difference. It all begins with prayer.
