It is now April 30 – in the season of Quarantine for Covid-19.
7 Arrows: Transformation for a Nation
Frankly, I have been quite surprised, through this season of the Covid Crisis, how much the content that The Lord gave me for the book, 7 Arrows: Transformational Prayer for a Culture in Crisis, has tracked with what it seems God is doing in the American church at this time.
Over and over again, I hear in the prayers of the saints and from some Christian leaders about the need for individuals to mature: to be purified, to be grateful, to be surrendered, as I wrote about in Arrow 1: Aiming at Maturity. Arrow 2 aims at the Restoration of the Family Unit. Arrow 3: Aiming at Belief asks the question, what do churches believe and touches on the great reforms that I believe that God is now bringing upon the church at large.
In 7 Arrows, I emphasize the need for individual believers to assess their own gifts and talents, manage their own hearts and be accountable for their own faith. I also emphasize the need for believers to be salt and light in every area of culture, bringing the principles of Scripture to bear on every aspect of life.
As a nation, we are quickly coming upon the matters of Arrows 4 and 5: State, Local and Federal Governments.
A Rude Awakening:
The founders of the nation of which we are citizens wrote these words in our primary founding document, The Declaration of Independence. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
One essential question for us in this season is: do our rights come from our Creator, as the founders wholeheartedly believed, or do they come from government? Sadly, most Americans seem to have succumbed to believing that our rights come from government. Americans also seem to think that our provision comes from government as we look to Washington, D.C. for bailouts, handouts and our daily bread.
What a sad state we are in, to have gradually and progressively given over our God-given rights to an ever-increasing federal government. “If your government is big enough to give you everything you want, it is big enough to take away everything you have” is ringing more and more true today than ever before.
Re-birth of the American Citizen:
Along with prayers for maturity in believers and reformation of the church, I am praying for the Re-birth of the American Citizen. The struggle might be painful, but it is an essential one if we want to retain the exercise of our rights as God intends.
